Counselling

What is it?

People can sometimes have difficult times in their lives and need some extra support and guidance. At other times, we do not understand why our usual coping methods do not seem to work. Sometimes it may not be appropriate to confide in family or friends about our personal issues.

As a counsellor, my aim is to offer you a warm, nurturing, safe environment and to be an open, honest, and accepting person that you can trust. I will always endeavour to understand you and how you experience your life, both past and present. Counselling provides you with a supportive, non-judgmental, and confidential environment in which to explore any emotional, psychological issues you may be encountering. It may enable you to see your circumstances afresh and with clarity so that you can make the necessary changes that will help you at this particular stage of your life.

I will create an environment that offers deep acceptance of you as a person while working alongside you. Through you getting to know yourself and your issues, counselling provides an opportunity for you to reflect on your thoughts, and feelings. I will not give you advice on how you live your life. I will offer a unique way of being... I will give you space to be understood, accepted for who you are, and how you want to be within your life. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing people take control of their lives again.

How do sessions work?

Initial Session

Our first session would be an exploratory one to see if we both feel if it is going to be helpful and appropriate for us to work together. You would have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have concerning counselling. This is informal and there would be no obligation to continue further sessions if you do not feel it would be beneficial. Counselling sessions usually last approximately 50 minutes and are held weekly or fortnightly.

How many sessions will be required?

The number of sessions required is unique to each client and will depend on a number of factors including your short-term and long-term goals and how much support you have out-with our therapeutic relationship. Some clients only require a few sessions, others require more. I am happy to work however you choose. We can discuss this during our initial session.

Are sessions confidential?

Our sessions are completely confidential, the only exception in which I would consider breaching confidentiality is if I believe you are in danger of harming yourself, another person or committing a serious criminal offence. However, if such issues arise I first and foremost discuss my concerns with you. I abide by the Framework of Ethics of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy

Cancellation of sessions

Please give me as much notice as possible should you need to cancel your appointment. If it were less than 48 hours, I would require the fee to be paid in full.
